"Do you really think it's Misaki?"
- Makoto Ouji
Makoto Ōji (大 路誠, Ōji Makoto) was one of the students of 9th Grade Class 3 in 1998. He sat behind Kōichi Sakakibara in the classroom.
Makoto has wavy reddish-brown shoulder-length hair and brown eyes.
He's only ever seen wearing the standard male school uniform.
Makoto was shown to be kind and cheerful. He, along with Noboru Saruta and Megumi Tatara, is a member of the band club at school. They are also best friends. He and Noboru weren't affected by Takako Sugiura's speech concerning Mei Misaki, though they were willing to consider the possibility that she was the Extra.
Makoto's first appearance is in Episode 1, being part of the group that directly welcomed Kōichi to Class 3 on his first day, and brought up knowing a little about Kōichi's father's job in India when the class was told a little about Kōichi's past, and also discussing with Naoya Teshigawara about India in general.
In Episode 11, after listening to Takako's tape broadcast, he and Noboru went to the hall to check out the situation. They discussed whether they really thought that Mei was the dead one. He also recalls that the mansion was on fire, but he couldn't see any flames or smoke. He opened the dining room door, and the flames burst out, causing a backdraft that burns him alive. Noboru was tossed to the side when the explosion occurred.
